Seismic Ceiling Accessories
It may seem like an overkill in Australia – however seismic events are more common than many people think, and building design must be influenced by this risk.
In the event of an earthquake, the stability of the perimeter is of paramount importance. With this in mind, National Ceiling Systems has designed a series of aluminium extrusions that are ideal for such use.
Both shadowline and plain wall angles feature a slot designed to fit the SRIC roll-in perimeter clip, accommodating both fixed and floating perimeter configurations. These perimeter options are detailed in depth in our Seismic Design Guide, a copy of which can be obtained via this link.
Seismic wall angles are also ideal for situations where back-bracing to the substructure is required. This is generally recommended for larger ceiling areas, where a stronger structure is required. The bracing area must be at least nine metres in width and nine metres in length. (This is reduced to six metres by six metres for buildings in New Zealand, due to the higher likelihood of seismic events occurring).
In addition to our product range, NCS also offers a complete seismic design for your project at design stage. If you’re a designer working on a project that requires a seismically stable ceiling, this is a great option to streamline the process of ceiling design and ensure that you have an effective, useful design from the beginning. Request a full seismic design using this form. Bear in mind that all seismic designs should be considered by a qualified independent engineer before going to construction.
